Artwork by students from Glasgow Medical School (2024)

Thank you for visiting this website! We are delighted to host and showcase this exhilarating collection of artwork produced by 13 Glasgow Medical Students from their “Navigating Uncertainty in Medicine with the Arts and Science” elective in the Summer of 2024. It is the physical representation of their learning and the culmination of 90 hours of study over 4 weeks. The students experienced a variety of the Humanities (literature, theatre and performance, art, music and film) taught by 23 internationally recognised experts from 8 institutions across 5 different countries (including Brazil, The Netherlands, USA the UK). Scientific subjects included clinical reasoning, statistics, inclusive and public health, multimorbidity medicine, treatment burden in medicine and evidence based medicine.

The students are thrilled at the exciting opportunity to share their work with everyone through this website. This follows a highly successful installation, hosted by the Clarice Pears Byres Road Hub, to coincide with the 50th anniversary celebrations of the founding of the Academic Department of General Practice and Primary Care.

This collection of art is entitledNow Sign Your Name” – inspired by how doctors prescribe medicine by signing their names at the end of the ‘scripts (a colloquialism for prescriptions) and also the book “The Dot” by Peter Reynold. The story tells how a teacher encourages a student to start small, believe in herself, and see where it goes. The result: transformational change, with ripple effect.

This is what our students and academic educators have achieved through this elective. Everyone undoubtedly an O.G.
